Best Vegan Food In York

Hey Explorersaurs! Today’s post is all about the best Vegan spots to grab some food in York. York is a Viking city (and dates back to the Roman times!) literally packed full of history, things to do, and lots to eat! I was actually born here and my family own a house here, so I’ll be coming back more and more. With this, I have of course been testing out all the best spots for epic food. I have found some incredible places and I can’t wait to share everything with you! Let’s get into the best Vegan food in York:

Goji Cafe:

This is a Vegetarian and Vegan cafe, and has bloody beautiful food. You eat inside or takeaway – the place itself is pretty unassuming and just looks like a regular shop, but the food has works of art. So much healthy stuff and genius inventions. That quiche is made with cashews and it tasted like heaven on a plate.
Goji is located at 36 Goodramgate, York, YO1 7LF. Visit the website here.

Ask Italian York:

You weren’t expecting that I bet! Ask Italian in York absolutely has to be their best venue of it. It is STUNNING! The building is the “Old Assembly Rooms” which has a big old history, and is honestly the loveliest spot to go for some Lunch or Dinner. Ask Italian is also very well priced and have a huge range of Vegan options – as well as some of the most well-priced cocktails in York! (Horray!) The red lentil pasta gave me life!

The address is The Grand Assembly Rooms, Blake St, YO1 8QG.

Doe Bakehouse:

If you’re looking for a sweet treat you don’t need to look further than Doe Bakehouse for soft, delicious doughnuts. They are better than Krispy Kreme and any big chain in my opinion – the best I have ever ever eaten. Not all the doughnuts are vegan here but they’re marked clearly. Even the creamy filled ones are often Vegan and sweet balls they are amazing. (I think the filled doughnuts are my favourites actually!) 10 out of 10 FOR SURE. I DREEEEAM of these doughnuts.

12A Church Street, York, YO1 8BE.

Rad Pizza:

I have to admit, the name didn’t sell me on this pizza place at all. BUT I went with it after seeing great reviews and absolutely fell in love. They have a range of Vegan, Veggie, and meat pizzas and they taste DIVINE. The best Vegan pizza I have had in my life so far for sure! The Vegan garlic mayo is also divineee with the crusts.

We got this from Deliveroo. You should be able to get in in the centre at: 17-21 Piccadilly, York YO1 9PB.

The Ivy:

The Ivy isn’t predominantly Vegan but they do have a few options which are delicious. This is proper posh food so check out the menu first, but if it’s your vibe it’s a great place to have a special dinner out. The veggie and meat menu is usually received really well too!

Other bars and eateries we recommend:

  • Jimmys York – for a crazy hard-rock vibe. Great cocktails and great service.
  • Right next door, The Forest. This is a restaurant with quirky greenery vibes everywhere – a grammers heaven. The food was delicious and the drinks were also fab.
  • Pitcher and Piano – for Riverside boujie-ass seating. This is a chain and has some stunning locations, it’s a little pricey but a gorgeous area to chill and chat.
  • The Orchid Vegan Chinese. We got this on takeaway (Deliveroo again), and they have a huge amount of Vegan substitutes. The rice is delicious and it’s a great alternative selection!!
